Australian Adventure, Week 8: September 11-17

We have been in Australia for two months! This week we explored Kangaroo Point, went on a hike, and spent some time at the beach!

On Sunday, we had a slow day unpacking from Sydney, doing groceries, and getting some laundry done. In the afternoon we went for a walk in our neighbourhood. Then, in the evening we walked over to a local pub for a round of trivia. We still don’t know all the answers to the Australian trivia questions but we didn’t come last!

On Monday, we woke up early and headed to Kangaroo Point, the neighbourhood under the Story Bridge. We met a group for a guided tour of the area learning about the historical buildings, why the area floods, and which restaurants we can’t miss. Later that evening, we checked out Broken Hearts Burger Club. They were branded as an In-N-Out of Australia and were absolutely delicious!

Tuesday and Wednesday were busy days with school and work. Between that, we played some online games with Quinn& Victoria. Then, Webster got out for a hike at Mount Coot-Tha.

On Thursday we went to the Walkabout Creek Discovery Centre. Located in D’Aguilar National Park, it is a scenic area with trails and swimming. We walked along the trails and then Webster jumped in the reservoir for a dip with the turtles!

On Friday, we got the trunk fixed on our car. Thankfully it was covered under warranty so it was nice and easy. Then, in the evening we headed to a bar downtown to watch the Brisbane Lions play in the AFL semi-finals against Melbourne. Sadly, they didn’t play very well but we made friends with some other fans and had a great time.

On Saturday, we had a relaxing beach day. We drove up to the Sunshine Coast, north of Brisbane, to meet some friends at the beach. Webster met Vince in a “Canadians in Brisbane” Facebook group - he is from Guelph and is also living in Brisbane with his girlfriend from NZ. We soaked up the sun, had lunch on the beach and went for a dip in the ocean.
