This week we had a blast scuba diving, snorkelling, and exploring all Port Douglas has to offer!
On Sunday, we boarded the Ocean Spirit, a catamaran out of Cairns (60km south of Port Douglas). We headed out to Michaelmas Cay, a small sandy island on the Great Barrier Reef. Upon anchoring in Michaelmas Cay we boarded a “beach buggy” to transport us to the small island for snorkelling. We spent the day looking at corals, swimming with colourful fish, and even spotting a turtle! At the end of the day we boarded a glass bottom boat for one last look at the area before heading back to shore!
On Monday, we were back out on the Great Barrier Reef, on the Silversonic. We departed from Port Douglas for a full day of scuba diving. We completed 3 dives on the reef, spanning over 2 hours underwater! It was a wonderful day with lots to see.
On Tuesday, we went to Mowbray River to spot some crocodiles in the wild! Northern Queensland is known for crocodiles - people seem to find them everywhere. We went early in the morning, looked out from the passenger bridge, and had no luck.
Later in the day, we went back at low tide and we spotted a HUGE crocodile!
On Wednesday, we went to a local market at the marina before having lunch at Hemingway’s Brewery. It was pouring rain all day, but still beautiful with temperatures just under 30.
On Thursday, Webster spent the day at the golf course playing 18 holes in 35 degree weather. He had a great day doing what he loves!
Later in the evening, we sat by the water to watch the boats come back in! Then, we went for some fancy drinks in town.
On Friday, we played trivia at Hemingways Brewery. It was clearly a local hotspot as all the employees from the boats we had been on were competing against each other. While we didn’t win, we didn’t come last!
On Saturday, we spent the day at Mossman Gorge. Mossman Gorge is a protected piece of the Daintree Rainforest, the oldest living rainforest in the world. The Gorge is an indigenous ecotourism development to promote responsible use of the land and appreciation of its beauty. We spent the day walking through the rainforest and enjoying the various lookout points in the area.
This week we are headed back to the Great Barrier Reef, the rainforest, and more! Thanks for following along with our adventures! See you next week!
