This week we went to the beach, prioritized schoolwork and work-work, and went on a hidden bar tour!

On Sunday, we drove down to the Gold Coast for a few hours of sun on the beach. We ended up at Burleigh Heads, which is a little bit further south than our usual spot. We walked along the coastline, enjoyed a picnic, and had a relaxing start to the week.

On Monday, we went to a locally-famous burger shop, Burger Me. We both had a beef burger and fries - it was absolutely delicious, we would highly recommend. Later in the afternoon, we went back to the driving range for Webster to keep strengthening his knee! Fingers crossed he can play a round of golf in the next few weeks!

On Tuesday, we kept busy with school and work. I had a presentation at school and a few assignments due. Webster had a lot of meetings. We kept fuelled with some good coffee!

On Wednesday, Webster had a golf lesson at the Royal Queensland Golf Club. The course is hosting the Australian Open later this year so it was exciting to be there!

On Thursday, we were back at the Food Bank for our usual weekly shift. We enjoyed getting to know some of the younger volunteers.

On Friday, we did some shopping at a big Westfield mall outside the city. We did some Christmas shopping and I got a new raincoat. Then, we enjoyed lunch in a laneway called 8 Street, Garden City. 8 Street is an Asian style hawker street food precinct with authentic Asian cuisines from Japan to Vietnam, China, Korea, Philippines, India, Thailand, and Malaysia all under one roof.

On Saturday, we spent the morning getting ready for the week ahead. We checked out a local grocery store that advertises fresh produce in our neighbourhood. While we were impressed with the quality of the produce, it was extremely expensive so we only left with some broccoli and avocado.

Later in the evening, we went on a hidden bar tour with a couple of friends. We started at New Episode Bar on Fish Lane. The bar looks like a barber shop from the outside, but when a special code is used on the payphone, a door opens behind a mirror to let you in. We had fancy cocktails named after famous hip-hop artists!

Our second stop was Suzie Wong’s - a Hawaii-themed hidden bar behind a freezer door. We walked in and it seemed like we were in a different world.

Our third stop was Ling Ling’s. We walked into the unsuspecting restaurant serving Asian cuisine where there was a wait to be seated. The hidden bar was through a “No Entry” sign on a door under the stairs.

Finally, we headed to Greaser, a dive bar where Webster loves to check out comedy. We saw some live music and had some burgers.

This week we are headed back to the beach, to play some trivia, and to a koala reserve. Thanks for following our Aussie adventures! See you next week!
