We can’t believe it has been 10 weeks already! This week we spent a lot of time working on school assignments and exploring the city.
On Monday, our week started as usual. I went to school bright and early for a full day of class. Webster left a little bit after me for his classes. It was a sunny day (perfect for being at school...) but we tried to soak it up between lectures. I read 3 chapters between my classes and Webster met with some group members for a class project. We spent the evening booking our cruise excursions for our Japan cruise in July! Even though it is still a few months away, we were keen to book some activities.
On Tuesday, we both went to school again for the day. Tuesday is our longest day, Webster has a 10 hour day, and I have a 8 hour day. It feels good to be back at school studying but with so much to see in this city, and beautiful weather, it can be hard to focus!
On Wednesday morning, I headed into the city centre for my weekly volunteering. It was great to be back with the kids I am seeing and hear all about their weekends. I’m really enjoying my time with them and I’m so glad I decided to do something in the community. Webster spent the afternoon in class and then headed to Ultimate Frisbee practice. He is loving it!
On Thursday we woke up and headed into Chinatown for lunch. We had some great Chinese food before making our way to UTS to study for the afternoon. We found a spot by some computers and got to work.
In the evening, we finished up some of our last meals at our current Airbnb in preparation for our big move. We finally booked our trip to Ayres Rock and we applied for our tourist visa for Vietnam. We had so submit passport like portraits to apply.
On Friday we had a slow day packing up all of the things we have accumulated over our six weeks so far. I spent some time playing with Gabriel, he is officially learning how to walk and has grown so much since we have arrived.
In the evening we went to see Five Feet Apart. We got a great student deal and only paid $5 each! We both loved it! I bawled the entire time and Webster didn’t even cry a little bit...
On Saturday morning we woke up bright and early for one of our only sunny days this week! We headed to Glebe to make our first stop at the Glebe Market. These markets are held all over the city in school yards on weekends. We wandered through the market, looking through all the handmade and crafty things. Then, we headed to the Paddington Market. We were really impressed with the quality of the products on display. There were lots of luxury, independent clothing brands, beautiful art, and lots of organic fresh food. The Paddington Market has been our favourite so far!
After our morning at the markets we headed to Bondi Beach for some sun and surfing. Webster rented a board for a few hours and went out on his own for a surf. I laid on the beach and soaked up the sun! Since it was forecast to rain, there weren’t too many people on the beach...a nice surprise from busy Bondi. It ended up raining for 10 minutes in the middle of the day, and stayed sunny for the rest. Webster had an awesome day on the waves, he managed to get up at least 10 times!
We spent our evening cleaning up and getting some assignments submitted for school.
On Sunday, we woke up and finished packing before making our big move. We left our current Airbnb, in Lilyfield, for a new one in Surry Hills. We couldn’t find a place within our budget that was available for all 4 months, so switching a few weeks in was our best option. We have really enjoyed our AirBnB experience where we are so it will be hard to top it! Once we were all packed up, we loaded our stuff outside and waited for an Uber. We were expecting a car, maybe an SUV if we got lucky. No. We got a small, smart car thing. Just our luck...the smallest car EVER, and we had all of our things. The Uber driver didn’t think it would work but I ended up holding my suitcase on my lap, Webster took two bags on his lap and we drove across the city.
When we arrived our new AirBnB hosts met us and let us in. We are staying with a young couple who works very long hours. Our first impression is that they are VERY quiet, discreet, and there are lots of little rules that need to followed. But, they have great reviews on AirBnB and the location couldn’t be better. The room doesn’t have an ensuite, but it does have a private bathroom. The apartment is very old and in need of a makeover, but it will do the job for the next 7 weeks.
Once we got settled in, we unpacked our things and got some groceries for the week. We made dinner, chatted about our week and wrote the blog.
This week, we are going to a show at the Opera House and hope to get back to the beach if the weather cooperates! Thanks for following along with our adventure, we will post an update next Sunday!
