On Monday, our week started very quietly. Webster stayed home from work so he came to visit me for lunch! We booked tickets to see Wicked the musical in a few weeks and walked by Buckingham Palace. The guards had all changed their uniform for the winter - from now until spring the royal guards will wear a long grey coat.
After work, Webster headed off for a double header at soccer and I stayed home to prep lunches for the week and do some online shopping :) Webster came home having won one game (woohoo). He STILL won’t let me come watch or take a selfie for our blog, but hopefully in the next few weeks when his season comes to an end I can go cheer and get lots of good pictures!
On Tuesday, we went to see a Harry Potter display at St. Paul’s Cathedral. It was set up to raise money for JK Rowling’s charity while promoting the new Fantastic Beasts movie. We were hoping it would be really exciting but it was a bit of a let down. At 6:30pm all of the wands lit up and some Harry Potter music played for 5 minutes, then it turned off again. We instead spent most of our time wandering around St. Paul's Cathedral - it was beautiful!
On Wednesday, it was Halloween! We spent our evening at the Arsenal game watching a game of soccer! We got tickets on the day of the event, so we were able to get a great deal! It was fun to get out and spend an evening doing something the local people frequently do. Arsenal won the match 2-1!
On Thursday, Webster stayed home from work again so we had our usual lunch date - sausage rolls at Buckingham Palace :) On Thursday night we planned our upcoming weekend away and caught up on our Netflix shows.
Friday night we went out to the 99 Comedy Club. Our AirBnB lady is the managing director so she got us a dinner package for free :) Nothing is better than a free dinner out! We went for a three course meal and then show started at 8:30pm. I don’t find many things funny, but the first act was hilarious! Webster was laughing so hard throughout the entire show :) Afterwards we walked through Leicester Square and Piccadilly Circus.
On Saturday morning, we had a big sleep in - or lie in, as they call it here. Webster got tickets to go see both Part 1 and 2 of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child play so he spent the ENTIRE day at the theatre. It was two full length plays. Webster really enjoyed it and recommends it to any Harry Potter fans.
I spent the day shopping at Westfield - the biggest mall in central London! It was SO busy but I had a great time wandering through all the shops. Then I made my way to shop at Oxford Circus.
On Sunday morning we woke up bright and early to head to the Churchill War Rooms. The museum was previously used as bunkers and meeting rooms during the war. It was the place Churchill lived so he was protected from the bombings in London. It is right underneath 10 Downing Street. We had to climb down 2 stories to get into the bunker. Apparently many people did not know the little city under the ground existed until the 1970’s. When someone was sorting through archives they found the bunker with everything left as it was when the war was over. Churchill must have literally closed the door to the bunker after the war and walked away. It was an interesting tour, not something everyone sees when they come to London.
After the War Rooms, we headed to do our grocery shopping for the week and clean our flat. Then, at about 3pm, we got all dressed up and went to the taping of the X-Factor UK.
We lined up for 4 hours to see Simon Cowell, Louis Tomlinson (One Direction), Ayda Field, and Nile Rodgers. Sadly, once we got SO close to the front of the line, they let us know they had filled all the seats. Even though we spent four hours waiting for nothing, it was a good afternoon because Webster and I spent some quality time together, freezing, and chatting away. We have decided that from now on we will only go to shows that have assigned seating.
