Ajaccio, France - August 2018

After Barcelona our first stop was the island of Ajaccio, France. Ajaccio is a city on the Mediterranean island of Corsica.

As the ship pulled up to the pier, Katie and I sat out on the balcony to watch the beautiful island approach. It was a little island with lots of private boats coming in and out of the pier. We watched as the crew tied up the ship and got the gangway ready.

Since we didn’t have an excursion booked, we took our time getting off the ship to avoid the crowds. In the early afternoon we left the ship and set out to explore the town. The first thing we did was visit the local donkeys, who live in the moat of the islands former military fort. After watching them get fed we walked to the beach. It was a hot day so the boys and I went for a swim, while Katie stayed on the beach to tan. The water was warm, clean and clear. You could easily see your feet and the ground under the blue water.

After the beach we went to wander the town. We stopped at a small restaurant where we enjoyed homemade sorbet. Then we explored the harbour in awe of the huge yachts docked. We wandered through a market before heading back to the ship.

To cap off a great day we sat on the balcony and watched as the last people ran to catch the ship... almost 20 minutes past departure time.
